How Camera Inspections Help With Preventing Sewer Line Problems

A sewer camera is a very important tool Plumbers can use to help diagnose your sewer problem. Plumbing can be complicated and sometimes a camera inspection is needed to get down to the root of what is going on inside your sewer pipes.

What Is a Sewer Camera Inspection?

A sewer camera inspection involves a waterproof camera that is attached to a long cable. The camera is then inserted through your sewer line clean out, or sometimes through a drain. Your plumber then watches on a monitor as the camera travels through the pipe. Then they observe and interpret what they see inside your sewer line. Some things a camera inspection can show are broken and deteriorating pipes, roots growing into your sewer line, pipes holding water and the overall condition inside your sewer line. It can also determine what type of pipe your sewer line is and the location of tees, fittings and other connections inside your sewer.

When Does My Sewer Line Need a Camera Inspection?

All drains in your house lead to your main sewer line. Some plumbing issues can be a simple fix, while others need professional help. Here are a few warming signs to help determine if your sewer needs a camera inspection:

  • Clogs: If you've had multiple clogs cleared, that is not a normal issue. You may have a more serious problem going on inside you pipes.

  • Slow Drains: If drains are consistently slow to drain and you've done thorough drain cleaning methods at home, it may be time to get professional help.

  • High Water Bills: Are you noticing your water bill rising with no explanation? You could have a small leak and a camera inspection could help detect where.

  • Foul smell: You should never smell sewer gas anywhere inside or outside your home.

  • Green, Lush Grass: Is your grass looking better than ever? Plants thrive off of all the things raw sewage has to offer. Inspect your yard to see if you have any water pooling or any sinking spots in your yard, because it could be caused from a leak in your sewer line.

  • Sewer Backup: The number one sign that you have a problem with your sewer line. You should contact a Plumber as soon as possible.

Plumbing issues can be intimidating and sometimes complicated, but a camera inspection can help take some of the stress off. Discovering problems sooner rather than later, can help save you time and money on an even bigger problem.
